The Flagship killer

                         OnePlus One vs ?

We all have heard and seen the hype and rumour surrounding the flagship launches. Compaines call it the 'revolution' which is nothing but an evolution and 'The next big thing', which  happens to be 'Just the next thing'. Falling for all this, you brought yourself a flagship recently and are convinced that you  got 'The Flaghip of the year' and made the wisest choise?. Think twice!(those of you watching the internet closely will know what i am taking about ). Because the very defenition of 'Flagship' seems to have been slightly redefined. It is no more just the very high end specs and all the bells and whistles, but a factor that we never expect it be  associated with  -'PRICE'.

A company called OnePlus seems to be taking  this aspect head on with the moto 'NeverSettle'. OnePlus is a start-up company and producer of smartphones from China founded on December 17, 2013 headquartered in Hong Kong and Shenzen. Now you might think how on earth can a company with no notable  history just make a phone that can stand against the SAMSUNG, HTC, APPPLE , SONY etc. But they have done it with the OnePlus One. With killer specs and more importantly a pricing of $299  that makes the deal so tempting.

The phone  has a 5.5 inch 1080p  screen with a pixel density of about 401ppi. Most smartphones you see these days have plastic chassis. But OnePlus went with a material that we haven't seen very much of in smartphones, magnesium .The phone like most recent high-end phones, is powered by  Qualcomm's blazing-fast Snapdragon 801 coupled with 3GB of RAM and Adreno 330GPU. In terms of  storage, we see a new  strategy here with the One. OnePlus is skipping the 32 GB option, jumping straight to 64 GB for just $50 more than the 16 GB model. Considering Apple charges an extra $100 to jump from a 16 GB iPhone to a 32 GB one, $50 for an extra 48 GB is looking like a pretty sweet deal. The rear of the camera has 13Mp shooter with dual LED flash which can even record 4K and  720p slow motion videos @120fps .The front has a 5MP shooter for all your selfies. In the software department , One dosen't dissappint at all. Running on the latest 4.4 kitkat  the One ships with the mod community's favorite custom version, Cyanogenmod. CM builds that you download for rooted phones typically feature the stock Android UI (or something very close to it), but the special version of CM (11s) that runs on the One has its own unique appearance. Like all versions of Cyanogenmod though, the beauty is in how customizable it all is. The OnePlus One lets you choose between using onscreen or capacitive (below screen) navigation keys. If you go with capacitive keys, then you'll always be able to use 100 percent of the screen for your apps and content. If you go with onscreen navigation, then you end up sacrificing a little real estate. Apart from all this ,One also packs in Tap-on display ,Wake with voice and  NFC features. The phone gets its juice from a 3,100 mAh battery which OnePlus is advertising "over a day's worth of battery life". Out of the box, the One will come in both "silk white" and "sandstone black" colors. Right now it looks like the white model is tied to the cheaper 16 GB version, while the black  to the $50 more expensive 64 GB One.

With this launch ,OnePlus  has hit the one spot where its competitors are weak and lacking and 'Smashed' the flagship by their never moto 'NeverSettle'. What do you think?. Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Why this is do or die for Apple

Has Apple lost its charm or its  that the  competion just  caught up?

So folks, its the time of the year when the rumour mill churns out the best rumours. Yes, I am talking about 'The big daddy of innovation-Apple' . From the mouse, Mac ,GUI and the iPad,Apple constantly challenged the status quo and led the way. Times are getting tougher  for Apple  as rivals are inching closer and even beating them at their game . The world's watching Apple fall as  some predicted when  Steve jobs passed away.
Apple generally  launches its new iPhone(s) in September and the last quarter of the year blows up with sales. Sales typically hit the top peak  around the holidays , but Apple has supercharged this by releasing iPhone at that time.  Demand consistently peaks after a new iPhone debuts, as you’d expect.
From 2007 to 2011, iPhone sales doubled every holiday season, more or less. A new iPhone meant way more sales, but that’s no longer the case. In 2012 that growth fell by two thirds, and even with two iPhones in 2013, it all fell again by another two thirds. But you wouldn’t realize this by looking at the sales chart. Sales look like the chart on the left. It’s the one with a lot of upward momentum.

Look at the chart and you’ll see why Apple is finding it tough to stay on the top. Dwindling growth each year for the last few years.  But  a look at the rumours on the web about the speculated products(if true) show that Apple is moving in the right direction .
A new iPhone is  obvious. But how different will it be when compared to the current gen? Only Apple knows. Based on a recent survey, its clear that the world cant wait for an iPhone with a bigger display.

“This is the highest level of demand for an unannounced Apple model in a ChangeWave survey – stronger than we’ve seen in previous years for the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5 models prior to their announcements,” said Andy Golub of 451 Research. “Speculation over a larger screen iPhone is clearly striking a chord with consumers.”

This is quite contrary to what apple convinced us some time ago . Apple tried to convince us that  4inch was the perfect size for a phone. They were even seen ridiculing the competition (Yep,the note lineup). But now the  phablets rule the world .A recent leak suggested that the next iPhone will have a 4.7 inch screen and even more variants. A new Mac book pro ,Apple Tv etc are to expected.

Another leak(pic shown below) points out that Apple clearly know its situation and hudles.

But when you believe something and make others believe the same and then you realise that you were not right  is what Apple is finding difficult to fight. Just like with the screen size, closed ecosystem , and also the megapixel count race. Not to mention  the 'premium' tag that Apple devices hold proudly for we the customers are tapped. What this situation has is that it has created a new environment with faster, cheaper devices and we are left with  more options to chose from.

What will Apple do and to what extent will they 'Think Differnt' to get back on track has to be seen.

Nexus 5 vs Moto x

                     NEXUS 5 vs MOTO X

Finally!. Moto x hit the indian shores after its announcement  almost 7 months ago .So obviously, we consumers are left in a dillema.Yes, you guessed it right - THE NEXUS 5!!. So which one is better(or which one is better at what ?) ?.This blog will not tell you which one you should buy but will defenitely help you in making the right choise . If you are interested in looking into the specs of these phones indepth go to moto x  and nexus 5. Nexus 5 being  dearer by almost 5k INR has its own USP. Then where does moto x stand? Lets dig in !

DESIGN: Motorola says that they designed the phone's shape first and the rest of the phone  was designed around it. And it is quite true. Surprisingly both the Nexus and X weigh at around 130g ,but the Nexus has a slightly larger screen. The decision of buying a phone based on the design criterion is purely a personal choise but the 'Moto maker ' takes the 'personal choise ' to a whole new level .

SCREEN : Many of you may be saying that the Nexus's 1080p screen rules any competition with the  X.Does it? Lets have a look .The nexus 5 has a 5(4.95 to be precise )inch screen with a resolution of

1080 x 1920 pixels which gives a pixel density of about 445ppi which is an excellent display. The Moto X has a AMOLED 4.7 inches with a resolution of 720 x 1280 which gives a lesser pixel density of 312ppi. While you won't notice the Moto X's lower pixel density unless you press your eyeballs up against its screen, the larger size, whiter whites and superior brightness of the Nexus 5 give it the upper hand. What the moto has  that is truly unique is the way motorolo have used the AMOLED display. Being able to turn on a single pixel, and save battery based on color is pretty damn cool. This means that you notifications on the screen when the phone is not awake are displayed by turning on individual pixels which is not only cool but also helps in decreasing the battery usage.

SMILE PLEASE :-)   :If you are buying a phone for an awesome camera ,then you are making wrong choise by selecting either of these phones . Neither the Nexus 5 or Moto X takes photos that will blow you away. The Moto X has superior specs, though – with a 1/2.6-inch sensor that's larger than the 1/3.2 sensor of the Nexus 5. It also has a higher megapixel count. It has ten , the Nexus 5 eight. Of course, that extra resolution doesn't really shine out much in the resulting photos.
. The megapixel count isnt everything. The Moto X's extra megapixels don't offer much improvement when comparing shots taken with the Nexus 5's 8MP offering. If anything, the Nexus 5 produces more details even in well-lit condition. Google has fixed most of the problems on the Nexus's camera with an update, but still!!. Motorola also updated its camera software recently to allow you to drag its focus indicator to select your focus and metering point. The major advantage that the Nexus has is OIS and more detailed shots.

UNDER THE HOOD: On paper the Nexus has a Snapdragon 800 Quad-core CPU clocked at  2.3 GHz coupled with an adreno Adreno 330 GPU  and the Moto x  powered by a dual core Snapdragon  s4 CPU clocked at 1.7GHz with Adreno 330 .Both the devices have 2giggs of RAM which is adequate. Phone chips developed from the Snapdragon s4 to 800 makes the nexus 5 two 'mini generations ' ahead of the moto x. But this performance difference will not be noticed in the normal day to day usage. But there is no denying the fact that the Nexus is faster .The Moto X carries a combo of a dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor running at 1.7 GHz, an Adreno 320 quad-core GPU and two specialized cores (one for contextual computing and the other for natural language processing), all of which are supported by 2GB of RAM. The unique X8 octa-core architecture in the Motorola made it difficult to compare with other phones. If want to know more about the moto x's processor the go to moto x-cpu performance

SOFTWARE :If you're not a fan of Android skins such as Samsung's TouchWiz and HTC's Sense, you'll like Motorola's fairly clean build of  vanilla  Android . Everything from the lock screen and app menu to the notification drawer looks and feels Nexus-like.While the nexus offers the google experience launcher.
The more flashy software addition from Motorola is Touchless Control. Excellent while driving, your Moto X listens for the key phrase even when the screen is off. By default (you can change it if you're crafty) saying "OK Google Now" lets you have access to all of Google Now's voice actions, as well as extras from Motorola while Moto Assist has you in driving mode. With the Nexus 5 you have to have the phone on and be on the home screen to activate voice actions.Yes, some Samsung phones can do something similar, but it rarely works, lags your system, and drains your battery. There are some trade-offs to this purer Android experience. For instance, you can't launch any app you want from the lockscreen, as you can with the Galaxy S4 and the HTC One. The way  how Samsung integrates quick settings and notifications on one screen, complete with a brightness slider is a great and I personally like this addition . On the Moto X, settings and alerts are separate. The reason it works well here is the processor arrangement on the Moto X. Using coprocessors clocked very low that use very little battery, the phone can listen while the main processor is asleep. If it hears the predetermined phrase, it wakes up ready to go. The Snapdragon 800 also has a low-speed low-power coprocessor, but Google chose to use if for health and fitness purposes like communication with a heart monitor or pedometer. Some may argue that the always listening feature on the moto x is a privacy concern, I would say that its super cool and its defenitely the way forward.
BATTERY :Both the phones have a non removable battery ,the Moto x with a 2200mAh battery and the Nexus with a 2300mAh .The 720p AMOLED display helps in performance as well as drawing less juice from the battery, therby ...a better battery backup (a full day!atlest thats what Motorola claims). The nexus 5 isnt a performere in this aspect.

PRICE:Always the first and last factor that we look into . Priced at 23999INR ,the Moto x is defenitely a compelling buy for its software features while offering a almost stock android experience with a decent performance. However, we can't ignore that the Nexus 5 is a much more powerful phone that is cheaper. It'll also get Android updates more quickly than the Motorola phone. Now the choise between the two is upto you.

GALAXY S5 :What we finally got!

What everyone hoped and expected!
After almost a year ,we finally have the brand new (really?) Galaxy S5. But is it good enough to  have the 'S5' badge?. Or did all the hype kill the most expected Star to the new galaxy S family ?. We shall look into all these things in this blog and its not a review because i havent used the device .

I would say that  we sky rocketed out imagination which was to good to be true. Lets analyse fact vs fiction mathematically . Lets analyse each major component of the device Ro(Rumour) vs WVG(WhatWeGot) mathematically weighing RO VS WVG on a scale of 0 to 5.

Lets start from the heart of the device and grow inside out.
1)PROCESSOR AND RAM:
                RO:
When Apple showcased their ultrafast 64bit processor, it was sure that Samsung would hit back with the same method.  A Snapdragon 805 with an adreno 420 GPU or Samsung’s own Exynos 6 was expected to power the S5 and push it to the top of benchmarking charts. Galaxy S4 had 2 giggs of RAM, Note 3 3 giggs and a minimum of 3 giggs is what everyone would expect
WVG: Disappointment!. Just a minor upgrade. A Snapdragon 801 quad core processor humming at 2.5GHZ and shocking  downgrade to 2GB of RAM .Though this dosent put the S5 anywhere behind the competition but , it won’t be the fastest either.
SCORE:3/5
2)SCREEN
RO: A stunning 5 inch or more display with a super crisp resolution of 2560*1440 with  a   whopping 560ppi.
WVG: This was the biggest disappointment of all .Normally a new device is supposed to ‘succeed’ a previous generation ,but the S5 boast of a 5.1 inch full HD AMOLED display with a ppi which is lower than the S4’s ppi. This  dosent mean that the diplay is bad in any sense but being a flagship Samsung could have done better work .
SCORE:3/5
3)DESIGN
RO: All in the all, the Galaxy S line hasn’t changed too much in terms of aesthetics over the years. We heard that S5 could ditch the “cheap n plasticky ” design to a more premium full metal unibody much  like the HTC one .Also a waterproof and rugged design was also on the lists.
WVG:Biggest Dissappointment!. Samsung threw at us the same old design with a back with a new soft touch dimple like texture borrowed from the Note 3 which many of us wont be a fan of. A minor upgrade would be the water resistant (not waterproof) and dust proof IP-67 certification.
SCORE:2/5
4) CAMERA
RO: A 16 MP sensor with  ISOCELL technology to boost photography in low light condition .OIGS was sure to be skipped.
WVG: Quite true to the rumours , S5 features a 16MP sensor with the fastest autofocus time of .3sec .New additions include super fast burst mode, 4k video recording ,HDR ,selective focus modes etc.
SCORE:4/5
5)BIOMETRIC SENSORS ,BATTERY AND SOFTWARE
RO: When Samsung introduced the S health app in the S4 ,it was clear that they were
experimenting with the fitness and weareable tech segment. The biggest rumour was
that the S5 would include an iris scanner which would enable the user to log in to to their
device and services by scanning their eye. Samsung was sure to give an answer to Apple’s
Touch ID. The battery was expected a  major boost from the previous generation in
              terms of life and rating.
WVG:A fingerprint scanner integrated into the home button ,a 2900 mAh battery ,skinned down version of Touch-Wiz. The application of the fingerprint sensor is limited as of now ,though that will surely improve with time. Samsung has done some quite interesting work in terms of battery saving mode on the software front .The new ‘Ultra power saving’ which when enabled ,not only gives you a complete minimalistic homescreen but also makes everything  completely  greyscale meaning that you would get 24hrs of standby on just 10% of battery. A heart rate monitor placed below the camera at the back helps you to calculate your heart rate via the S-health app.
SCORE:4/5
So,What did we finally get?
TOTAL SCORE:16/25
Which means the we got 64% of  what we hoped and expected .Will this phone sell a million units in a short span just like other galaxies? Well ,that now  depends on the pricing .

THE NEXT BIG THING -'YOU'   The next generation of cool gadgets are here and they are  definitely

'Wearable tech:function with style'

At CES this year ,the buzz was all about pixels and next form factor of our daily drivers.Watches, glasses  bracelets and clothes are the things that most of us use daily and we wish that they could be more.More?yes ! ,imagine your watch being able to adjust your car temperature on a hot summer day before you hop in or a glass giving you turn by turn navigation (This is very real now). Wearable technology (also called wearable gadgets) is a category of smart devices that can be worn by a consumer and often include tracking information related to health and fitness. Other wearable tech gadgets include devices that have small motion sensors to take photos and sync with your  mobile devices. The field of wearable tech is an outcome of  'wearable computing'.Wearable computing is the study or practice of inventing, designing, building, or using miniature body-borne computational and sensory device.Seems like every major company is in a rat race for the next big thing. Just a google search of this topic will give us an insight into the pace at which the  tech  industry is competing .But it is clear that the the next big thing is  'YOU' .Soon our virtual and real worlds would be merged into a Smart world ( optimistic point of view) using augmented reality and smart material science. This video in the link Top 5 Wearable Tech! (Early 2014) :MKBHD should  give a small picture into the current scenario of this trend.

While the devices are undoubtedly conversation starters, and the look may be coveted in some circles, for the most part wearable technology has a fashion problem. But some are finally trying to break out of the gadget world and into the fashion world. The technology inside these devices is moving ahead while the design side stagnates. Sensors are getting smaller, cheaper and more advanced. It's possible that the technology will become so advanced that trackers could bypass the design problem altogether by shrinking down electronic elements enough that they can be invisibly embedded in regular clothing, hats, shoes and belts. For the most part, wearables offer a limited selection of the features already available on smartphones. The idea is to save people from the distracting task of pulling out a phone, looking at it, tapping on it and returning it safely to a pocket.
As for anything that is new there will always be people who hate or love this concept. But one thing is very clear that we cannot just ignore them.

Why samsung galaxy s duos will never get an official jelly bean update

Yes,you read it right .Though this is not official ,below are the reasons that point that samsung will not update its younger cousin of the flagship 's' line up -the  s duos to jelly bean .

S duos was announced in august 2012 and was expected to be a performer .But as they say 'Expectation leads to frustration' ,the device was laggy and underperformed .But everyone hoped that it will soon be updated to jelly bean 4.1. Samsung announced a list of devices that it will be updating and s duos was in that list .http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_announces_list_of_devices_that_will_get_jelly_bean-news-4853.php
But now its dec  2013 and there is no official wording on any 'jelly bean' and  samsung has announced the next duos -'' S duos 2'!!
This is a clear indication that s duos  users( including me ) are stuck with ICS and have to depend upon custom ROMs to get a taste of jelly bean. When S duos wan announced, it was launced in India @ a price of about 15k INR and now its available at a price of about 9k INR .This makes it clear that samsung want to sell out the device and leave its users in the darkness .
But lets just hope that samsung 'might' provide an update ,else we have the option of rooting and installing custom ROMs.

SAMSUNG GALAXY S DUOS VS MICROMAX A89 NINJA

SAMSUNG GALAXY S DUOS VS MICROMAX A89 NINJA

    WHICH ONE TO PICK?

This blog is for those of you who are tired of going through all the reviews and comparisons and still thinking -' which one to pic?'. But if u still want to go through the specs ,u go to the links given at the end of this blog.

Both the ninja and s duos have a similar design ,but s duos fells better in the hand an feels solidly built . Ninja on the other hand feels plastiky and cheap. Coming to the display ,the ninja's display with the same resolution comes no close to the crisp display of galaxy s duos. The touch response of s duos feels more fluidic  .Both the phones have an average readability in sunlight. The UI of ninja is  stock android .S duos runs on the 'touch wiz' skin seen on  other samsung devices . This makes the device slow on multitasking . Ninja has an upper hand over s duos because of its stock interface and it feels very fast. The camera of  s duos performs well in well light conditions whereas the pictures taken on ninja were grainy and the colors felt washed out.In dark conditions s duos performs better because of the presence of the LED flash . The video quality on s duos is good and that of ninja  is poor. When it comes to performance , ninja equipped with a dual core processor performs surprisingly fast .S duos lags on multitasking. The music quality on s duos is the best . Not only does the music sound crisp and clear ,but also the wide variety of equaliser options are a boon. The virtual 7.1 feature is a big USP of the device.Music on ninja lacks bass and the stock headphones provided are of poor quality.
